Think of "spirit" in terms of the life force that flows through you via the energy systems of the body and extends out from your body.
And, think of spirit as the vibrations that your body receives via nature, music, people, and even the more distant vibrations from further distances on earth and beyond.
You can become more mindful about working with spirit via energy healing modalities and self care practices.
Energy healing is based on the ancient concept that there is a vital force, an underlying flow of energy, both within the physical body and extending from it.
Today, the United States' National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), which is a part of the National Institutes of Health says that energy fields are scientifically measurable. These fields include electromagnetic fields and used in cardiace pacemakers, radiation therapy, and more.
NCCAM recognizes that the concept of people being infused with a subtle form of energy has persisted for more than two thousand years and that this energy has many names including...
qi, as in traditional Chinese medicine
ki in the Japanese system
doshas in ayurvedic medicine of India
and elsewhere as prana, etheric energy, fohat, orgone, odic force, mana, and homeopathic resonance.
Lack of medical research on and scientific verification of the body's energy field has kept many conventional medical practitioners from accepting and using energy healing techniques. However, there is reproducible, fair data showing that energy healing decreases pain. We can also measure the effect an energy healer has on plants and animals. And we do know that one of the most important ways energy healing enhances our health is by decreasing anxiety and the effects of stress on the body.
Energy healing modalities are thought to function either through relaxation or in a fashion similar to relaxation, shifting to the automonic system function that improves health and reduces inflammation. It is now becoming apparent in conventional medicine that most or all disease starts as inflammation. Tending to inflammation via energy healing and other modalities including self-care practices may be an important way to keep the body healing itself and to prevent disease.
Practitioners who work with the energy system perceive and describe the energy body according to how they were trained and the aspect of the energy body with which their modality works. See the chart below.
For example, some practitioners work with the chakra system, others with the meridian system, and still others with the matrix; each looks for disturbances that affect your energy or life force.
The underlying premise is illness develops when there is a problem in the energy body.
In the natural history of a disease, the energy body first becomes blocked or unbalanced.
Over time, disease develops, and finally, symptoms appear in the physical body.
Once pathology is present, using conventional medicine with all other effective modalities is best. AND, working with the energy body during the entire process will facilitate healing more quickly.

BODY With enhanced body awareness, you can discern physical sensations, the sense of groundedness, as well as the delightful sensation of “flow.”
MIND Mental awareness includes being conscious of your passing thoughts, your habitual thoughts, and the messages from your “inner voice.”
The heart is a symbol for connection. Because the heart receives messages from itself as well as from other parts of the body and responds accordingly, it serves as an apt metaphor for connection, to ourselves and with others.
